Meet the Coach
JAMES BECKINSALE M.Sc, TRIATHLON COACH, FOUNDER OF OPTIMA RACING TEAM AND AUTHOR OF THE TRIATHLON TRAINING BOOK.
After years of coaching athletes in person I wanted to help athletes all over the world who couldn’t engage with coaches or clubs personally. Rather than just providing online training plans, I have put together a number of resources including training plans, videos and articles.
For the training plans to become personal to you I’ve included profiling tools that will help set your individual training zones. I’ll also be posting training sessions and current thinking on social media.

Depending on where you are in the world – Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere – in relation to your triathlon season, I’ve separated the year cycle into 3 training phases; foundation, winter and race preparation.

Winter training is all about developing your all round fitness for Triathlon. Yes you have to take into winter things you have learned or built on in the Foundation phase however holding this new learning under greater pressure. If preparing for an Ironman or 70.3 it’s key that you don’t over run or over bike on duration. Whatever distance you’re training for you need to have enthusiasm at the start of the 12-week preparation phase.
